Four Generations!

Grandma!

Mom!

Ummm how did THAT get here?

So last week we girls had a blast for Mother’s Day. Several years ago…mom started a very cool tradition for us girls. Every Mother’s Day the four of us would meet at a restaurant for lunch after church. It would always be a buffet and it would always be delicious and it would always be way more then my budget could afford. It was Mom's treat for her mom, daughter and granddaughter! We all come from different areas all over the state and have had great times every year.

As the seasons change in our lives this tradition has never been missed by any of us. This year was no exception. The four of us range in age from twenty to nearly ninety. Quite often we giggle about the possibility of a FIVE girl generation Mother’s Day lunch. Sara trembles and the rest of us grin. Then someone pops out and says, “Sure if you make it to 100” to the eldest. Most of you have heard about the drama with Grandma’s fire and undoubtedly you’ve heard me brag on my daughter….yeah like that’s ever going to stop! NOT!!!!

I haven’t mentioned too much about my mom even though I’m connected geographically to her more then the other two. She’s witnessed more drama in my world then the other two. She’s not always agreed with me but she’s always been a great person to talk to and she’s always offered sound advice.

The four of us are not criers. Oh sure I’ve seen the other three cry on occasion but for the most part we don’t pack Kleenex. We’re tough and demanding on our men too. We don’t settle for less in anything. Mom and Grandma have outlived their husbands. Both of their marriages lasted nearly the half century mark.

So anyway….Sara approached me with a pack of tiaras she grabbed at the dollar store last Saturday. She said that we were going to wear them during our special lunch! I told her that it was a great idea but mom and grandma probably wouldn’t go for it.

Well, take a look at the pictures! Yup baby knows better! We have four generation pictures for every year including one way back when the baby was maybe 3 years old. Back to the tiaras…Sara made up homemade cards, inside she wrote “Thanks for the tradition” and on the outside she fasten a bag of candy and a tiara for each of us.

Who would have thought that tradition would be important to the youngest of us? I was touched. That one sentence along with her eagerness for the event----- even though three days prior she had FIVE wisdom teeth pulled---- made my day!

Connecting with the girls in my family over a scrumptious buffet and champagne…..it just doesn’t get much better. Unless you wear a tiarra!

Hugs, Happiness and Harmony!

Julie
