There is a reason why this has been ongoing for eighty years!

Precious, just precious! So maybe I'm just a little bit bias...my son Nathan did these Scripps spelling bees from 4-8th grades (I think). He had to qualify in his individual classroom and then his grade and then he went on to the "city" spelling bee. These were horrendous nail biting evenings for me. He did pretty good and never cracked under the pressure. I remember walking around holding the coveted spelling bee booklet that his teacher would always give to him and tossing words his direction when given the opportunity. He finished in the top 5 in the city several times with one time landing at first runner up!
So to all you spelling bee-ers....Do your best and moms and dads will be proud of you!
Hugs, Happiness and Harmony,
Julie

Love the spelling bee...incredible that the thing that used to make me sweat in a small classroom is not broadcast worldwide!

I read about this today! The favorite missed the first word on your list. Tough break.

I don't usually watch this, but I love that it's so popular. There isn't much in this country that gives kudos to kids who work hard and want to be the best at something useful.
