MM "Bud"

My daughter's boyfriend ran a "half" marathon this past weekend. Yeah ONLY 13.1 miles through the rain and the forty degree weather with the flu. Over 400 budding athletes came together to do this. What discipline-I can't imagine. So right before I got ready to run down the front yard to watch the runners go past our house, Jeff came up with the bright idea of a sign! I ran to the garage for the cardboard and to the basement for the bold permanent black marker. I grabbed my camera and cell phone and ran down to the road.

Anyway....in one of my devotion booklets I had this reading on the day of the run. Coincidence? I think not. Enjoy as I take parts from the Daily Bread by RBC Ministries:

A mile from the finish line of the London Marathon, thousands of onlookers holding signs lined the route. When spectators spotted a family member or friend coming into view, they shouted the person's name, waved, and yelled encouragement: "Just a little farther! Keep going! You're almost there." After running 25 miles, many competitors were barely walking and ready to quit. It was amazing to watch exhausted runners brighten and pick up the pace when they saw someone they knew or heard their name called out.

Encouragement! We all need it, especially in our walk of faith. The book of Hebrews tells us to keep urging each other on. "Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, . . . but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching" (10:24-25).

Even if you have nothing else to give, you can give encouragement.

Here is a picture of Adam with his parents Dan and Sandy. Aren't they sweet?
Oh! By the way...Adam came in 2nd place finishing it around 1 hour 15 minutes!
And that, my friend, is way cool!

Don't forget to go see Mo and the MM blogroll
and
Mister Linky and all that cool stuff!

Hugs, Happiness and Harmony!
Julie

I love to run, but not in marathons. Mostly at the dog park.

Congrats to Adam! I love the sign. I was usually on the side of relying on the cheers to help motivate me. But offering encouragement to others who are struggling can be so rewarding.

    Happy MM!

Yay! I ran a 5K once... actually twice, I think, but I came in very nearly last both times. I run sloooowwww. I think I could do a half marathon if I trained long enough but the other racers would have gone home and slept and woke up the next day before I was done.

Encouragement is a wonderful thing, and it's something we all need from time to time. Glad Adam had lots of it from his family and friends!
