A Day in the Woods

I went to mom's last Saturday and we decided to take advantage of the great weather. We hiked all over her wooded area. This particular section was around 25-30 acres. She's part of the government tree program and they had some people come in to kill off the grape vines that are taking over. Let's go for a little walk..okay?

This is an example of how the grape vines can be so destructive.

The vines were cut and you can see how they are dying off in this picture. It almost looks like gorgeous vines of wisteria...but it's not.

Mom's best friend. Little Brigeeta..or however you spell it. Briggy for short. She goes on all the walks too.

I don't know nuthin' 'bout mangling someone's tree stand on mom's land. Nuthin' at all! What a jerk! I can't believe the nerve of people. She has "No Hunting" signs posted all over!

Okay...this is a classic example of a wonderful grove of trees. Exactly what this government program is trying to achieve. The wildlife must love it!

Check this out! Several years ago a tornado must have gone through here....this is the root system of one of mom's trees! Pretty huge, huh? SO you figure I'm about 5 feet tall.....geez the entire root system didn't even show.

Oh man! You should have seen mom and I working up THIS picture! Just a little garter snake. Mom's was dancing around like a fool and I was afraid I was gonna jump a mile if the snake moved. It didn't though and that's a good thing....I didn't have a change of underwear!

So....I wonder what happened when they started up the ladder with no cotter pins in it? No, no, no....I don't know nuthin' 'bout it! Nuthin' at ALL!! Tee hee hee!!

Check out the deer tracks!

If you look real close you can see how this tree was hollowed out. Nice place for an animal!

I hope you enjoyed yet another walk with me. It truly is a beautiful place. It's not a wonder she refuses to move. All alone...in the middle of no where....her own personal sanctuary. Just one problem out there.....NO INTERNET! ARGH!!!!

Hugs, Happiness and Harmony!
Julie

Oh, oh, oh, oh! I nearly forgot! FIVE MORE SLEEPS TILL ITALY!!!

That was fun! Yes, let's do it again!

In the South, we have kudzu which is similar to those grape vines. Once it starts growing, you can't kill it and it can take over an entire section.

You should take a walk with a handful of No Tresspassing signs and put them on either side of each tree with a deer stand. I'm not opposed to hunting, but they know they're on private property. Jerks.
