Okay…I’m going to try some new stuff here today…..Yikes, I sure hope they work! My daughter goes to Ohio State and she is so pumped about THE game. Yup she’ll be there doing what more college kids do, I’m sure. And I’ll be praying a lot too! I would LOVE to find the OSU fight song, but……oh well. Here’s what I have for you today!

Sara (my daughter) wanted to share with you some of the stuff going on in Columbus.

Ok, so I'm sitting at work and I just got done reading our student news paper. I have collaborated some fun tid-bits about this game that I believe every mother of an OSU student should be aware of:

-There are numerous white bed sheets with spray painted messages hanging from the porches of residents as well as frats. One of my favorite ones I saw was "Go Blue! pause, NOT! Go Bucks!" <- it's from the movie Borat

-to the avid sports fan, Michigan is supposed to be spelled M!CH!G@N

-The tradition of jumping into Mirror Lake started out as a hazing ritual but once the university tried to do away with the hazing rituals, students decided to jump in on their own. This always occurs at Thursday night before the game at midnight. MOM ADDS: Yes Sara very happily participated. Silly girl!

-There was an email sent to all the Michigan students who were planning on coming down here for the big game and here were some of the tips the dean of the university told students to do: Don't wear your school colors until you are safely inside the stadium, don’t cheer for your team or give negative comments until you are in the stadium, don’t hang around after the game outside, just go to your destination and avoid boasting your colors and comments, and finally...my favorite one...avoid high street (ha ha) which is like a block from where I live)

-Kegs and Eggs are offered at nearly every bar on high street starting as early as 5:30 am Saturday morning

-The City of Columbus has banned parking on 9 main streets (including 14th --my street) to reduce the threat of cars being set on fire or damaging the vehicles. This ban will take place from 6pm Friday to 6am Sunday. So people who have a parking pass for the street, must go way out to West campus or somewhere else, and I’m sure those parking lots are already completely full.

-There is a fraternity at OSU who paired up with a frat at Michigan to come together for a common cause (cancer) and they raised money to support their cause. The relay race will begin at Michigan’s stadium and will conclude at OSU’S stadium. I believe the race began Friday and there are 40 OSU students and 80 Michigan students (cuz it's a bigger frat) who will each run 2-3 miles each. I think that's pretty amazing.

There once was a little boy who lived in Michigan. On the eve of the Big Game, he arrived at school dressed in his favorite scarlet and gray shirt and noticed that he stood out like a sore thumb. The teacher complimented all of the other boys and girls in class dressed in Michigan colors, then asked why he was dressed in scarlet and gray.

The boy responded “Because I’m an Ohio State fan!”

“Why are you an Ohio State fan when you live in Michigan?” asked the teacher.

“Because my Mom is an Ohio State fan and my Dad is an Ohio State fan, so I am an Ohio State fan.”

The teacher responded “What if I said your Mom is an idiot and your Dad is a moron?”

The boy thought about that for a minute and concluded “Then I guess that would make me a Michigan fan.”

Despite rain, Mirror Lake jump draws large crowd

Students continued an annual Michigan Week tradition Thursday night, plunging into Mirror Lake despite near-freezing temperatures and water.

Some energized, others apprehensive, and in some cases drunk, a multitude of students trekked out to the Neil Avenue pond to join the celebration which has honored the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry for decades.

The fully-clothed and scantily-clad alike made the jump, leaving behind a floating pool of bras, underwear, flip-flops and beverage containers.

Oh, in case anyone was wondering…I truly DON’T care for football….but I had a great time doing this blog! And yup we’re having some people over and some good food, but truly I DON’T care for football! My son Lucas was awarded honorable mention in over 100 schools for the position he plays in football. And NO I don’t know what it’s called because I truly DON’T care for football. But anyway in spite of my abhorrent feelings towards football…

ya gotta love them bucks!
