Childhood thoughts
Most of you know that I publish a local newspaper in my community. One of the most rewarding aspects of this publication is knowing how it touches people's lives.
A case in point: I have coloring contests for the youth in our community and for the March issue I have a picture for Easter. Usually the ages range from 2 to 14. Yesterday's mailbox retrieval was different. Stapled to a entry form was a beautiful piece of embossed stationery that said:
”I finally yielded to temptation and did a coloring picture. I know I’m out of age range!! Coloring brings back memories of growing up during the depression. At Christmas time we didn’t get a lot. For quite a while it was a coloring book for each of my two sisters and me and a new box of colors.
Have many memories of evenings spent around the kitchen table, an oil lamp for light, the old kitchen stove with a warm crackling fire, the tea kettle humming a soft tune. We were happy kids-NOT bored!”
She continues on with kind words regarding this publication but the point that I want to make is that YOU CAN make a difference! I never thought that I could publish a newspaper….and when I dreamed about this I surely didn’t consider that I would be greeted with kind words this frequently. Don’t ever minimize your capabilities.
I wonder what crept through this elderly lady’s mind as she located her “colors”….I wonder if she giggled as she steadied her 81 year old hand across the page. She did a wonderful job coloring!
Hugs, Happiness and Harmony,
Julie

I would love to have a link to read about your father, mine was in the navy WWII but General Patton is one of my personal heros. Some of my early post deal with my life during WWII, I was just a kid.

Yup, anyone who thinks that one person can't make a difference has obviously never been in the same room as a mosquito! Try sleeping with THAT buzzing in your ear...there's just no way! LOL

It's one of the wonders of having a young child ... finger paints, coloring books, play dough, Candyland ... oh, life has its beautiful moments, if you just take the time to find them.
